I was spening my last days in Headstrong so I was not doing any serious work at that time :)Myself, Abhijeet, Rohit, Sachin and Avi were trying for an outing from a long time and fortunately April, 3rd 2009 was a holiday and it was friday. So we got 3 days..a long weekend to njoi. As part of our planning phase -
- We zeroed on for Dalhousie and got the reservation in Jammu Tavi.

Yes that trip was wonderful experience. We enjoyed to its fullest even from the time of boarding to the train. We reached Chakke Bank few km earlier from Pathankot in the morning on 3rd July and reserved a cab from station to Dalhousie. This 3 hour journey was much soothing. It was a bit cool and we were in relaxed mood after over night journey in the train. We reached to Dalhousie at 11.00 AM and checked in Manimahesh hotel, a Himanchal Pradesh tourism group’s hotel. Actually it was already booked from Delhi through online. We had planned to move out to have lunch and see local city after a short rest but we were so tired of traveling from last 18 hours that once we got to bed it was hard to get up and fell in sound sleep.
It was 3 PM we could move out for lunch. Since we had cab booked for the entire trip, convenience was not the problem at all. In fact, driver (can say guide also) of the cab was quite interesting, I think he had a perfect instinct of killing our enthusiasm. He had as much convincing capability (negative) that any tourist would regret why he came there. We were just naming sites and he was ready to explain about that as those sites are good for nothing and we have done some offence by asking about that. I guess he was refraining from driving and making it as short as possible. But we had to be with him any ways for 3 days.
Yes, back to our outing of the day one, after lunch we visited market and saw some shops of local stuffs and yes wines and beers which was our prime objective before starting. We all grabbed beer … but wait.. let me tell about my friends. Nikhil a cool guy, Rohit a very funny man, always keeps surroundings lively and have quality of explaining anything in his own unique style, Avi a Coca Cola boy and myself Abhijeet. As I mentioned and will do later also about taking alcohol, understand it as we three only, excluding Avi since he used to take cola only. We started day 1 sight seeing.
We reached site named ‘Subhash Bawdi’. Here was a small water tank always filling with water coming out from a source. It is saying that when Subhash Chandra bosh was in Dalhousi for some time then he used to come to this place. It was a deep silence in the atmosphere and we were feeling like part of nature. We spent there almost twenty minutes and moved ahead.
After that we went to a site called “SatDhara”. As name reveals, there were stones arranged in rows and 7 water streaks were coming out from it. It was very surprising the way water streaks were dropping to form 7 lines.
On the same way next to SathDhara was “Panchpulla” 3 km away from Dalhousi. It has great water works. We had have lots of fun there in water. Apart from that there were more attractions like boating, A deep valley full of greenery and also facilities of refreshment and one could also have something to munch there. We spent 30-45 minutes there and by that time it was getting dark and we decided to get back to hotel.
It was about 8 PM when we reached to market near the hotel and again it was enjoyment time for which our nervous system incautiously turn up . This time we decided to go with Blenders pride and felt like league of extraordinary men. In the hotel room after setting all arrangements we got engaged in drinks and dinner along with discussions about day 1 experience. By the time we finished all it was 11 PM and we were feeling very sleepy with loaded head. We dispersed for day1 with anticipation of thrill and fun of day2.
Day 2
We checked out hotel at 10 AM in the next morning. As per our plan, after some sightseeing we had to reach Khajihar by the evening. After taking break fast from a Panjabi restaurant, first we decided for shopping from Subhash Chowk market where shops had good collections of handloom work like shawls, wood works and other local attires. When you go for a tour, there is a tacit mandate that you have to purchase something. It gives you feeling of completeness of the trip. Moreover, your obvious instinct urges you to purchase local items ( as a memory of that place) for your dear ones. It makes him\her feel good and you get a fair chance to rise up your value in front of them. We all went in to some shops for the very same cause and purchased items of wood work and show pieces.
After shopping, we headed for Dainkund, our first site of the day 2. Dainkund is 10 km away from Dalhousie at height of 9000 ft from sea level. It was one of the most beautiful place I had seen. Cab dropped us approximately 2 km earlier from the top. After that it was ascended path and we had to walk to reach the peak. When we started walking, it was afternoon and atmosphere was quite descent. It took almost half an hour to reach the peak. Scenery at the highest point was terrific. We could see a wide range of the Himalaya at the height of our level and downside valleys of Dalhousie from that point were looking awesome. We enjoyed those moments and captured it in our camera too. On other side there was a temple of Pholani Devi where we spent some time. Before going down back to cab, we took rest for a while and had have small refreshment.
Our Next attraction was Kalatop. It is wild life sanctuary and has dense forest inside. It requires guest passes to enter in the sanctuary. As we moved inside, forest got more densed and little dark since tall trees all around were blocking sun light. After 10-15 minutes run from the cab we reached to the last point, Guest House. It was peaceful place surrounded by very beautiful greenery. After enjoying those moments for sometime we decided to move back though we did not like leaving that spectacular.
It was almost 3 PM we started our journey for Khajihar 18 km away from Kalatop. When we reached to the main sightseeing point in Khajihar we got mesmerized by seeing the beauty of nature. It was a large land area with uniformly distributed grass, giving a feel like a green sheet on the earth. A small pond at the center was very eye catching. This land was surrounded by tall trees arranged one after another in a circular fashion and acting as a boundary. When you visit any spot and find its beauty beyond expectation then for a while you get lost into its being ness. Same mindset we all had at that moment.
Coming out of this glimpse after few minutes, it was time for hotel booking for the night.
After quick searching, we had two options at last. One named ‘Devdar’, a Himanchal Pradesh tourism group’s hotel, was a bit distant from main site and second one was a small lodge very inferior than ‘Devdar’ but located at the center of the site. Apart from location parameter, lodge had few strong favorable points in terms of flexibility which were making it an ideal option for four of us (precisely, three of us). Also it was much cheaper than ‘Devdar’ (almost one third) that prompted us quickly to check in that lodge without any second thought.
After taking rest we got fresh and walked out to view site and made couple of rounds. It was 8 PM by this time and we headed towards lodge making it final end of day 2. In the lodge we followed very same code of conduct as we did at the night of day 1.
